In the afternoon, walk along the Malecón, the pedestrian promenade that runs along the coast of Puerto Vallarta. It is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike, and is packed with restaurants, street performers and food vendors. Enjoy a fresh tejuino, which is a local drink made from fermented corn, or buy a grilled fish on a skewer.
In the botanical gardens of Puerto Vallarta, you will learn more about the local flora and fauna. The gardens include conservation areas dedicated to blue agave, which is used in the production of tequila, as well as native vanilla orchids.
Vallarta takes on a new identity with pumping nightlife along the cobblestone streets and numerous LGBT-friendly options in what is the gay beach capital of Mexico.
English is widely spoken, and as a tourist destination prices are higher than many other places in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is very crowded at holiday times, if planning a visit to Mexico that coincides with a major holiday consider opting to visit Mexico City or Guadalajara instead. The cities empty out as Mexicans and tourists alike flood to the beaches.
Climate
Puerto Vallarta has a, typical for the west coast of Mexico, tropical climate with two distinct seasons: a long and dry 7-month period (Nov-May) and an intense and wet 4-month period (Jun-Oct). The dry season is slightly cooler than the wet season with high temperatures at or around 30°C (86°F) and lows around 16°C (60°F).
