Melanie Morales and Isaiah Dipini of Dunkirk High School are the recipients of the Willie Rosas Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship at Jamestown Community College.
Miss Morales will study early childhood education and Dipini will pursue a degree in nursing at JCC.
Named after Dunkirk mayor Willie Rosas, the first elected mayor of Hispanic heritage in New York state, the scholarship represents JCC’s commitment to cultivating diversity as well as investing in the community, according to Kirk Young, JCC’s vice president of enrollment management and institutional advancement.
“Mayor Rosas has paved the way in Chautauqua County for previously underrepresented populations in leadership positions,” said Dr. Young.
Along with $2,000 awarded toward tuition at JCC, the scholarship provides the recipients with an opportunity to participate in JCC’s Presidential Ambassador Program, which focuses on leadership development.
