Midnight Smoke, Appetite For Voltage Ready For Dunkirk Pier
The City of Dunkirk’s Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series hard rock night is this Thursday, July 20 on the Dunkirk Pier. Sponsored by Refresco Beverages, Midnight Smoke will start the show at 5:25 p.m. followed by Appetite For Voltage – GN’R & AC/DC Tribute as headliner at 6:45 p.m.
The concerts are presented by DFT Communications, Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and stage sponsor National Grid with Advanced Production Group as the production company.
Formed in May of 2019 and hailing from the Jamestown area, Midnight Smoke brings a new and exciting take on the rock genre.
The band was founded by brothers Stephen Pihl (guitar) and Will Pihl (drums). The brothers spearheaded the project bonding over a love of classic rock, blues, and modern alternative rock.
Although it’s musical roots are embedded in classic rock and blues, the band also draws upon a wide range of influences including punk, metal, and grunge.
Midnight Smoke released their debut album “Prove ‘Em Wrong” in the summer of 2021. In the fall of 2021, the band added Ben Bracy on vocals, and Mike Mackey on bass to round out it’s lineup.
Paying tribute exclusively to the music of Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC, Appetite For Voltage exists to bring those classic rock and roll songs to life at every show. The band has dedicated themselves to authentically recreating “note for note” renditions of songs that span the catalogue of hits as well as deep cuts, including the classic albums “Appetite for Destruction” and “Back in Black” in their entirety.
Formed in 2017, Appetite For Voltage has already toured sold-out clubs, festivals, and casinos including high-profile events such as “Rochester Party in the Park”, “Bands on the Bricks”, “Fairport Music Festival” and more. Each member of A4V brings several years of national touring experience to the band including performing on the “Monsters of Rock” cruise and providing direct support for heavyweights like ZZ Top, Motley Crue, The Ramones, George Thorogood, and countless others.
In their never-ending effort to emulate the music, lead singer Seth Martino commands the stage with his unparalled showmanship. Complete with wardrobe changes, his well-known Axl/Bon/Brian sounding wail and epic piano work on iconic songs like “November Rain” and “Live and Let Die,” you’ll leave feeling like you were just at a G N’ R or AC/DC show.
The band is equipped with two heavy hitter guitar players. Lead guitarist, Dylan DeSmit tackles the raw sounds of Angus Young and groove-conscious rhythms of Izzy Stradlin with ease. Having toured alongside Billy Sheehan as Talas’s guitar player, the newest addition of the band, Kire Najdovski sets fire to the stage with his incomparable sound. He emulates the parts of Slash and Malcom young flawlessly.
Brian Eberts brings years of experience and versatility to the rhythm section. His passion for the craft is evident on stage as his bass rumbles with excitement.
Energy erupts from the stage when Todd Lange hits the drums. His playing is infectious and undeniably powerful. Together, Appetite For Voltage is a force to be reckoned with.
On Thursday pier concert dates, the pier will be closed to traffic at 2 p.m. Guests are reminded to bring a chair. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site along with the beverage tent provided by Arthur R Gren Company and Southern Tier Brewing Company. The Dunkirk Boardwalk Marketplace will also be open.
The rained-out July 6 show is rescheduled with Sean Patrick McGraw on Thursday, August 31 from 5:25 to 8:45 p.m. Sponsors AG Team and Wells Enterprises will be on site with free goodies for the public.
