Buffalo, NY born musician Michael Carlos Mendoza is a versatile guitarist/ composer/educator making his mark on the world of music. Michael cultivates his own unique musical voice by seeking a balance between virtuosic playing, careful interpretation, and creative programming. In approaching his music, Michael draws on his diverse musical inspirations as well as the perspectives of both a performer and composer to inform his musical interpretations and creations.
Studying under Nicholas Goluses, Michael earned his master’s degree in classical guitar performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate in recognition of his talent and abilities. While working towards his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia as a student of James Piorkowski, Michael was a member of the “remarkable” Fredonia Guitar Quartet (L’Alsace, Colmar, France) and performed in the US, Spain, France, and Germany culminating in the premiere of Filmaginaires, a work dedicated to the Quartet by acclaimed French guitarist/ composer Roland Dyens.
Michael has a tremendous interest in fostering the next generation’s appreciation and understanding of music and the guitar. To that end, he is an avid teacher of guitar in multiple styles and has given multiple community outreach concerts in the Western New York area including multiple appearances in SUNY Fredonia School of Music’s Children's Concert Series.
