Home Locales / Regional Buffalo “El Encanto” New Puerto Rican restaurant- Grand Opening May 6th 12-7pm
Officially a called, “El Encanto” opened up in Buffalo on April 3rd, 2017. Currently located at 2179 Niagara Street right off the 1-190 ramp. El Encanto is a family restaurant, not a club, said George Mercado, an Assistant Manager. His sister, Melissa Morales is the owner and her first restaurant.
After years of cooking for her family, special events and catering for various local not for profits, she was encouraged to share her talents with the community. After much discussion and planning she decided to move ahead with her dream of owning and running her first restaurant. Doors for her for funding her dream were not opened for her but she did not let that stop her. She received the help from family, friends, and a small grant from the Latino Housing Development Corporation for start ups.
Her menu includes Puerto Rican popular dishes such as pastelillos, pork chops, chicken stew, monfongo (delicious garlicky mashed plantains), Caribbean seafood salad and bacalaitos (Codfish), and her famous Yellow rice and beans.
In the next couple of months, she will be adding light latin jazz music and local talent to the restaurant. George said, so customers can “come in and feel like they are actually in Puerto Rico.”
Melissa is preparing for a grand opening scheduled for May 6th, 2017 at the Restaurant.
