Buffalo Black Business Month
Mayor Byron W. Brown and the City of Buffalo continue to celebrate Black Business Month this August, recognizing the important contributions of Black-owned businesses to the community’s economic and cultural growth. This weekend and throughout the rest of the month, the City’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in partnership with The Exchange at Beverly Gray, is hosting a series of events and initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting Black entrepreneurs.

School Back Pack Giveaway at the Broadway Market
As the end of summer break draws near, it is time for students to prepare for the upcoming school year! On Saturday, August 24th, Mayor Byron W. Brown and representatives from the historic Broadway Market will be hosting Back to School Day at the Broadway Market. The event will feature a school supplies and backpack giveaway from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The giveaway is on a first-come, first-served basis until the supplies run out. Children must be present to receive the backpack. The market is located at 999 Broadway in Buffalo.
Summer City Fitness @ Johnnie B. Wiley
Summer City Fitness at Johnnie B. Wiley will continue on Saturday, August 24th, and continue every Saturday through Saturday, September 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., weather depending. The Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion is located at 1100 Jefferson Avenue. This is the ninth season of Summer City Fitness, sponsored by Mayor Brown, the City of Buffalo and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York. It accommodates all levels of fitness. In addition, free fruits supplied by Urban Fruits and Veggies will be provided to participants, courtesy of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Pool time
Great weekend to make a splash in City of Buffalo pools. Attendance has been steady and growing at Buffalo’s 5 outdoor pools. The pools will remain open through Labor Day Monday. The City’s 10 splash pads are also open and operational daily from 11 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. For more information, go to www.buffalony.gov.
Stop for stopped school buses in Buffalo
With the new Buffalo Public Schools academic year to begin on Thursday, September 5th,
Mayor Byron W. Brown and the City of Buffalo, along with Buffalo Public Schools and BusPatrol, issued another reminder to motorists to not pass a stopped school bus in the City of Buffalo. Digital message boards were recently moved to a few new locations this past week in a continued effort to remind residents and motorists about this added precaution to keep students safe while traveling to and from school. The new locations for the digital message boards are Delaware and Hertel, Parkside and Linden and Main Street and Delavan.
