Buffalo, NY – On Friday, January 22, 2016, Citizen Action will hold a celebration of its commitment to progressive causes and public policy in the Buffalo and Western New York area. For three decades, Citizen Action of Western New York has been organizing the grassroots for significant social change. Some of the organization’s accomplishments include:
winning a progressive new Code of Conduct for the Buffalo Public Schools to help break the school to prison pipeline and effectively implement that policy throughout the Buffalo Public Schools
consistently winning more funding for Buffalo Public Schools by rallying and advocating for Buffalo at actions at the Capitol in Albany
pressing for a new attendance policy, working with the Buffalo Public Schools and other partners to keep students safe and in school
being a part of the coalition locally and across the state to win a $15 minimum wage for fast-food workers
The event will honor founding member Ellen Kennedy and current State Vice President Jim Anderson for their many years of dedicated service and leadership. These two true community leaders have played a critical role in Citizen Action and in lives across our community.

This fundraiser celebration, “Moving Forward and Celebrating Citizen Action of Western New York,” will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on January 22nd at the Pucho Olivencia Center, 261 Swan St., Buffalo, NY 14204 to ensure that the progressive movement for justice will continue for another 30 years to come.
