Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School Network (BuffSci/RocSci) is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Joseph B. Polat, Ph.D., will be awarded the Ozanam Medal by Niagara University for his significant contributions as a scholar, educator, and leader in STEM education.
The honor will be presented during the Vincentian Heritage Convocation on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 4:30 pm in the Alumni Chapel at St. Vincent’s Hall, Niagara University.The Ozanam Medal is given to individuals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to education andsocial justice. Under Dr. Polat’s leadership, BuffSci/RocSci has become a regional leader in delivering equitable, high-quality STEM education across Buffalo and Rochester, serving a diverse student body.
Ismet Mamnoon, Chair of the BuffSci/RocSci Board of Directors, shared her congratulations: “Dr. Polat’s exceptional leadership and dedication inspire the entire BuffSci/RocSci community. His visionfor equitable access to quality STEM education drives the success of our schools and the future of our students.”Additionally, Dr. Mustafa Gokcek, Niagara University Professor and BuffSci Board Member praised
Dr. Polat’s transformative leadership, stating: “Dr. Polat is dedicated to providing quality education to a diverse body of students across Greater Buffalo. BuffSci’s integrated curriculum includes broad training in the humanities, complemented by a strong emphasis on STEM subjects and college preparation. We areadditionally excited about the growth of BuffSci/RocSci, particularly with the recent acquisition of the BuffSci@Medaille Campus and the launch of a $14 million Capital Campaign, the total for the Campus purchase and renovations, under his tremendous leadership and engagement with the community.” Dr. Polat will be honored at a ceremony that includes light refreshments and a photo opportunity. The event will take place in St. Vincent’s Hall at Niagara University, with the robing in academic regalia at 3:30
pm and a reception following the convocation in the Glynn Hall Statler Dining Room.
