The Man on the Telephone

By Jaiddie Ortiz

Sitting by the food court in the mall.

I’ve told again and again -Said the man on the telephone.

I am not far I am not deaf

I I’ve heard you before and again

I am just trying to comprehend

How sending me pictures of pancakes and landscapes and jewelry and such

Can make me come at your door to knock.

The woman basking herself in the sun said to the man on the telephone –

You have

No imagination

No vision

No tenderness

No sensibility

No care

No heart

No soul

No courage

No

No

No

Please do not hang up the phone.

A Rainy Night in Buffalo

By Jaiddie Ortiz

In candlelight

I sit

Into nothingness I peek.

Looking out my window I see

Leaves of trees beckoning to me.

The sky salutes me.

Indigo, creams, pink.

Kitty insists to play

Kitty and I in twilight

… I can almost hear him say

It’s raining me and dogs.

Crash – Thunder

Kitty runs to hide.

Me, I reach for my glass of wine.

In candlelight, I sit

Ghost shimmering …

Countries pirouetting on the walls

Tempting me to waltz.

I take off my shoes

Jumping leaping like a child

Blue Heron

By Jaiddie Ortiz

The blue heron awaits my visit by the falls

Some say since noon.

I shot it from different angles

When I climbed the hill, it flew away.

It took my dreams and liberty my sanity and reality…

Enveloped by shadows I stand. My soul permeated by the rain fall

And the rain drips, drips, drips, drips

Chocolate

By Jaiddie Ortiz

Do you want chocolate?

Asked the dark man sitting by her right.

Do you want chocolate? He asked

In Spanish, this time.

She thought about it for a while

Chocolates of Mexico

Chocolates of France

Chocolates of Switzerland.

Remembering the Bariloche night

Where the feeling was just right

She danced, danced, danced

Under Amaretto lights

Almond taste caressing her senses, delight!

In hiding; the gypsy uttered demonic verses

Against her beauty, finesse and charm

You will never dance as long are you are alive

No graceful waltz, no sensual sway

I curse thee; You are done

No love for you forevermore.

Do you want chocolate?

Again, asked the dark man

She pretended not to understand and wandered away

She failed to notice his gaze in adoration

His arm extended

With a rose and a box of chocolate in his hand.
