We regretfully announce that the 18th Annual Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade of WNY scheduled for Niagara Street, Avenida San Juan, Buffalo, NY on Saturday, August 15th, 2020 has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The concerts scheduled for LaSalle Park on August 15th and 16th have also been cancelled. This follows the cancellation of the Miss Borinquen Leadership Development program earlier this year to insure the health and safety of our youth.
Every year the parade honors the achievements and contributions of the Puerto Rican and Hispanic community to the American fabric of life, to its diversity and to the ideals of justice, equality in inclusiveness for everyone. This year, we look forward to honoring those contributions, especially by those on the front lines of the pandemic, by having a brief flag raising ceremony at noon on August 6th, 2020 in front of Buffalo City Hall. As in years past, flags representing Puerto Rico and all Hispanic countries will be posted along Niagara Street.
In line with our longstanding commitment of supporting our community and its youth, this year we plan to give away over one thousand (1,000) backpacks to children in the community. These backpacks will contain necessary supplies for school based learning, as well as provide a means to carry items should they have to travel (for internet connectivity) for online learning. The Parade Board is grateful for the support of City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Council President Darius Pridgen, Council Majority Leader David Rivera, Dr. Raul Vazquez, CEO of G-Health Enterprises, John Mika and The Teacher’s Desk, as well as other sponsors for their support of this much needed provision to the Hispanic community. We thank all of our supporters and partners for their generosity.
We look forward to celebrating the 19th Annual Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade of WNY on August 21, 2021. Please visit our Facebook page (Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade of WNY) or our web page (PRHDP.org) for updated information.
Respectfully,
Charles F. Torres
