Application period now open for June 2019 Buffalo Police exam New public outreach campaign will increase diversity among applicants Registration deadline – May 22, 2019
BUFFALO – Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood announced that the City is now accepting applications for the June 2019 Police Entry Exam and launched a recruitment campaign aimed at increasing the diversity of candidates
“Public safety remains a top priority and today I’m calling on City residents to ‘answer the call’ to serve and protect the residents, businesses and visitors of the City of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “This is a great opportunity to change lives and be proud of what you do. Through this application process and recruitment campaign, we want to attract a high-quality pool of diverse candidates that can help us continue to reduce crime and also help ensure that our police force better reflects the makeup of our city.”
“The City of Buffalo is proud to have one of the finest police departments in the state and I would like to encourage more of our qualified young men and women to consider a career in police work,” said Police Commissioner Lockwood. “Buffalo police officers play an extremely important role in ensuring our residents enjoy a good quality of life, while upholding and enforcing the laws that protect residents and visitors. By continuing to increase the diversity of our department, we will improve community and police relations, further strengthening our neighborhoods citywide.”
The theme of this year’s recruitment campaign is, “Answer the Call.” It is designed to attract a new generation of police officers who are committed to being future leaders who help define how police support, protect and work together with all people in the city of Buffalo.
In the coming weeks, the Buffalo Police Department will conduct an extensive marketing and recruitment campaign that will include extensive grassroots outreach, print and online advertising, social media engagement and text and email communications. The grassroots outreach plan will connect the City to individuals and organizations including churches, schools, social, civic and fraternal organizations, housing developments, block clubs, colleges and universities, and faith-based organizations that can reach diverse communities and help spread the word quickly.
Deadline for exam registration is May 22, 2019. The exam will be given on June 29, 2019. To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

The Buffalo Police Department offers excellent benefits to becoming an officer. Salaries range from $46, 628-$77,713. Benefit packages include health, dental and optical coverage, vacation/sick pay, retirement plan and a continued education stipend.
